10 THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT SAHAR ...

1. What do you love about Bellydance?
I first and foremost love bellydance because it is a dance style that allows you to connect to your own body and to other dancers in a meaningful and joyous way. I love the contrast between sensual and reflective moments and cheeky ones, and the sense of 'sisterhood' and community is hugely important - I have made some of my closest friends through belly dance.

2. If you had time to learn another dance style, what would it be?
I'm a bit of a dance nerd, I will try (and most likely love) just about any dance style! That said, I've always secretly wanted to try ballet.

3. What has been the most challenging movement for you to learn in bellydance for you to learn?
Definitely figure 8 flat's, I find not only keeping your hips level and flat, but moving them smoothly in a figure 8 to be an (enjoyable!) challenge! Also layered shimmies and graceful fingers!

4. If you could have a private bellydance/drumming lesson from anyone in the world, who would you choose?
I have actually fallen in love with many a 'less-known' instructor that I discover online, so I would love to go to a class by a gorgeous German bellydancer called Coco. That or a member of 'Rustiqua', an awesome tribal fusion troupe.

5. What is your favourite piece from the TABLA bellydance repertoire and why?
I love Legendary - the contrast between the slow, sensual walk on and the energetic bollywood inspired arms and accents is awesome. That and Ragtime Cat (a very new addition!) as I adore any electro-swing fusion and the chance to make faces and laugh!

6. What advice would you give to someone who is new to bellydance or is thinking of getting into bellydance?
Start as soon as you can, you'll never regret it! Also, be an explorer - go to lots of classes and festivals, look up videos on Youtube and dance along, make up choreographies with a friend, respect and love your body and however it moves, and cultivate the art of dancing for yourself, for the love of it and just coz you can!

7. What is one essential item you keep in your dance/music bag?
Hair-ties, always hair-ties! You never know when you'll need one.

And for the non-serious questions:

8. If you could only eat two foods for the rest of your life, what would they be?
I have a very committed and loving relationship with food, so this is a very difficult question! Probably a banana and blueberry smoothie and..an omlette with mushroom and fetta. But not at the same time! :P

9. If you were marooned on a desert island (with a plentiful food source), what three things would you want with you?
A magically renewing library, a never ending music collection, and a nice broad brimmed hat!

10. Sweet or Savoury? Day or night? Top Bunk or Bottom Bunk? Driver or Passenger? Pirates or Ninjas?
Sweet all the way, day, bottom bunk please, and Pirates!
